The Society of Karditsa “O Karaiskakis” was founded May 1984 with president, Mr. Ari Papaioannou. Its current president is Mrs. Anna Spingos.
The association has enjoyed and continues to bask in the success of its labour. The Society of Karditsa “O Karaiskakis” has not only grown its membership, but has had and continues to have success with its dance groups. Second generation ellinopoula have experienced the Karditsiotiko culture first hand and today we have a third generation of young people who are enjoying being a part of this cultural experience. The association hosts a Christimas party every year for all their youth and thank them with a Christmas gift that they receive from good ole Santa himself. In most recent years, they also host a celebration, in honour of a great man and hero, who played a key role in the fight against the Ottoman Empire, Georgios Karaiskakis, who was born and raised in Mavromati, Karditsa. All of this success is accredited to the tons of volunteers and to all the past and present committee members who have given their heart and soul in promoting and preserving the integrity of their culture and traditions.

Ο Σύλλογος Νομού Καρδίτσας «Ο Καραϊσκάκης» ιδρύθηκε το 1984 με πρόεδρο τον κύριο Άρη Παπαϊωάννου. Ο σημερινός πρόεδρος είναι η κυρία Άννα Σπίνγος.
Ο σύλλογος έχει αναπτυχθεί ως προς τα μέλη του και συνεχίζει να έχει επιτυχία με τις χορευτικές τους ομάδες. Τα δεύτερης γενιάς ελληνόπουλα έχουν βιώσει τον Καρδιτσιώτικο πολιτισμό και σήμερα έχουμε μια τρίτη γενιά νέων που απολαμβάνουν να είναι κομμάτι αυτής της πολιτιστικής εμπειρίας. Ο σύλλογος διοργανώνει Χριστουγεννιάτικη εκδήλωση κάθε χρόνο για τη νεολαία τους και τους ευχαριστεί με ένα χριστουγεννιάτικο δώρο που λαμβάνουν από τον ίδιο τον Άγιο Βασίλη. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, οργάνωσαν επίσης μια γιορτή προς τιμήν ενός μεγάλου ήρωα, ο οποίος έπαιξε καθοριστικό ρόλο στον αγώνα κατά της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας, τον Γεώργιο Καραϊσκάκη, ο οποίος γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στο Μαυρομάτι, Καρδίτσας. Όλη αυτή η επιτυχία οφείλεται στους εθελοντές και σε όλα τα μέλη της επιτροπής του παρελθόντος και του παρόντος που έχουν δώσει την καρδιά και την ψυχή τους στην προώθηση και τη διατήρηση της ακεραιότητας του πολιτισμού και των παραδόσεων τους.
Η Καρδίτσα είναι ένας από τους 4 νομούς της Θεσσαλίας. Το 49% της επιφάνειας στα ανατολικά αποτελεί μέρος της απέραντης θεσσαλικής πεδιάδας, ενώ το υπόλοιπο εκπληκτικό τοπίο είναι ημιορεινό και συνορεύει με την οροσειρά της Πίνδου.Το τελευταίο τμήμα είναι μια περιοχή απόκρημνη αλλά συγχρόνως γεμάτη μεγαλοπρέπεια. Βουτσικάκι, Καράβα, Ντελιδίμι,Νιάλα και άλλες κορυφές με πάνω απο 2000 μέτρα ύψος. Συνυπάρχουν και άλλες μικρότερου ύψους όπως η Καραβούλα, o Τύμπανος, o Ίταμος, η Τσούκα Σιάκα και η Αφορισμένη, ένα σύνολο που προκαλεί θαυμασμό και δέος. Στα κακοτράχαλα αυτά βουνά των Αγράφων σχηματίζονται τα μεγάλα ποτάμια, ο Μέγδοβας και Αγραφιώτης με τους παραποτάμους που μαζί με τον Αχελώο καταλήγουν στο Ιόνιο πέλαγος.
Μέσα στην πόλη της Καρδίτσας, το πάρκο Παυσίλυπο αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς. Μια όαση πρασίνου και ηρεμίας γεμάτη παγώνια με όμορφη παιδική χαρά για τα παιδιά. Η ενοποίηση του πάρκου με την πλατεία Πλαστήρα δημιούργησε χώρο για τις πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις. Δίπλα στο πάρκο συναντάμε τον ναό του Αγίου Κωνσταντίνου (19ος αιώνας).
Στο τέλος του κεντρικού πεζόδρομου βρίσκεται η κεντρική πλατεία. Χαρακτηριστικό της πλατείας εναι το κτήριο Παλλάς.Προς τα δυτικά βρίσκεται το ξενοδοχείο Άρνη που κτίστηκε το 1920. Στα νότια της πλατείας βρίσκεται το εντυπωσιακό κτήριο της δημοτικής αγοράς.
Αν είστε λάτρεις της ηρεμίας του βουνού τότε επισκεφθείτε τη λίμνη Ν. Πλαστήρα με τα καταπράσινα βουνά να χαϊδεύουν τις όχθες της και τα θρησκευτικά μνημεία όπως είναι η Ι.Μ. Παναγίας Πελεκητής δυτικά της Καρδίτσας κτισμένη τον 16ο αιώνα, στα 1400 μέτρα ύψος. Η Ι.Μ. Κορώνης (10ος με 11ος αιώνας), και η Ι.Μ. Πέτρας βρίσκονται στην κοινότητα Καταφυλλιού. Πολλά τα ξενοδοχεία και οι ταβέρνες στην περιοχή. Αν πάλι τα ταξίδια σου σημαίνουν περιπέτεια τότε ο ορεινός όγκος της Αργιθέας θα σε ανταμείψει με την άγρια ομορφιά. Δέος επίσης προκαλεί η Ι.Μ. Παναγίας Σπηλιάς κτισμένη στην εξοχή του βράχου, η Αγία Τριάδα Δρακότρυπας και Αγία Τριάδα Οξυάς. Επίσης, στην περιοχή Βατσουνιάς τα τελευταία χρόνια λειτουργεί το εργοστάσιο εμφιαλωμένου νερού Θεόνη και πολύ κοντά στο εργοστάσιο υπάρχει η ξακουστή ταβέρνα Κεραμαριό με σπιτάκια για διανυκτέρευση. Ξακουστά επίσης είναι τα πετρόκτιστα γεφύρια της Αργιθέας.
Η ευρύτερη περιοχή Σμοκόβου με τις εξαιρετικές ιαματικές πηγές που επισκέπτονται χιλιάδες άτομα κάθε χρόνο, αλλά και η βασίλισσα των Αγράφων Ρεντίνα. Αν η ιστορία σας συναρπάζει, το βυζαντινό κάστρο του Φαναριού που αγναντεύει τον κάμπο θα σας μεταφέρει πίσω στο χρόνο.
Περιηγηθείτε στις όμορφες ημιορεινές κοινότητες και ανακαλύψτε τη σπηλιά του ήρωα Γεωργίου Καραιϊσκάκη στο Μαυρομάτι. Στον κάμπο ζήστε μαζί με τον ντόπιο πληθυσμό, τα ήθη και έθιμα της περιοχής που ξυπνούν μνήμες περασμένων αιώνων. Μην ξεχάσετε να δοκιμάσετε τις νοστιμότατες τοπικές πίτες, όπως πλαστό, μπατζίνα, στριφτόπιτα και τα φημισμένα χοιρινά και αρνιά. Karditsa is one of the four perfectures of the geographic region of Thessalia. 49% of the vast Thessalian plain is located in the East, while the rest of its endless beauty and stunning landscape is semi-mountainous and bordered by the Pindos mountain range. Breathtaking are the commanding mountain peaks of Boutsikaki, Karava, Delidimi, Niala, which are over 2000 meters above sea level. There are also other less grandiose mountains, but deserving of the same admiration and awe, are the mountain peaks of Karavoula, Timpanos, Itamos, Tsiouca Siaka and Aphorismeni. In these glorious mountains of Agrafa, the great rivers of Megdovas, Agrafiotis and Acheloos run through the mountain valleys into the Ionian pelagos.
In the city of Karditsa itself, Pafsilipo Park is an oasis of greenery and calmness. It would not be unusual to see peacocks strutting around the park. Within this oasis lies a children’s playground. Within this magnificent parkland there also lies the main square of Plastira, where the community celebrates its cultural and traditional events. Next to this parkland you will find the church of St. Konstantinos, which was built in the 19th century.
At the end of the main pedestrian street is the main square. A characteristic of the square is the Pallas building. The Pallas building is a landmark in the city of Karditsa. In its glory days it was the main hub of the city. Currently it houses the Alpha Bank of Greece. To the west is the prominent hotel Arni, which was built in 1920 and to the south of the square is the impressive building of the Demotiki Agora, which hosts the city’s main market square.
If you are lovers of the great calming mountains, Lake Plastira would be a place to see with its mountainous evergreen caressing its banks. Lake Plastira is well known for its outdoor activities, such as biking trails, camp grounds, hiking trails and also is well known for its Botanical garden. Religious monuments are also in rich abundance in the perfecture of Karditsa. The Holy Monastery of Panagia Pelekiti, just west of Karditsa, was built in the 16th century, 1400 meters high. The Holy Monastery of Koroni, which is another beauty of the past, is said to have been built in the 10th to 11th centuries, as is the Holy Monastery of Petra found in the village of Katafilli. If your travels mean adventure, then the mountainous range of Argithea will reward you with its wild beauty as will the Holy Monastery of Panagia Spiliotisa, which was built high up on one of the magnificent mountain ranges of Argithea. Other stops in this glorious range are the Holy Monasteries of Agia Triada in Drakotripa and Agia Triada in Oxia.
In the city of Vatsounia, the Theoni water company has established itself in recent years with great success. It runs three shifts, seven days a week and employs approximately 100 locals.
The wider area of Smokovo offers one of the perfecture’s well known thermal springs of which thousands of people visit every year.
There are many beautiful semi-mountainous communities to discover in the perfecture of Karditsa, the cave of the hero Georgios Karaiskakis, in Mavromati is just one of them.
In the main city of Karditsa and in the surrounding villages, one can experience its local customs and traditions of the region that have been preserved throughout the centuries. The people of Karditsa are well known for their delicious local cheese and spinach pies, plasto, batzina, twist pies and the famous pork and lamb delicacies. Visitors as well as tourists enjoy Thessalian tsipouro and wines in the city’s numerous tsipouradika.

In the village of Kanalia is the anthropological museum that is housed in an old traditional house.
The monastery of Agia Triada in Drakotripa (near Mouzaki) is where Christians kept hidden during the Turkish occupation
Tavropos is near Lake Plastiras, which is a landscape full of water and trees. It is a picturesque area with a scenic hiking trail of 40km. It is the best outdoor recreational area to enjoy biking, canoeing, kayaking and camping.
